Kiwanis Finally Goes “Back To School”

After a two-year, pandemic-induced hiatus from classroom volunteering, Richmond Kiwanians finally returned to the classroom March 2 for Read Across America Day at Carver Elementary School.

Kiwanians Susan Campbell, Chris Hilbert, Ted Hoagland, Bill Loughridge, John Mahone, John McGinty, Karen Meadows, Bob Priddy, Jana Rairden, Dick Rheutan, Bob Rogers, and Charles Stafford attending our Club’s first in-person service project with Richmond Public Schools since they closed in March 2020.

“Reading with the precious Carver students was the best experience of my retirement, with maybe the exception of being a grandmother!” said Meadows, who joined our Club last year when the reading program was suspended as classes remained virtual. “Ms. Giles, you and your staff are obviously doing a wonderful job with these children! They are smart, well behaved, well-mannered, and an absolute delight. Thank you Bob and John for being our leaders! I am looking forward to more interaction and fun with Carver students!”
