The Kiwanis Club of Richmond manages a sizeable 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation, the Richmond Kiwanis Foundation, which generates annual income to support the Club’s service projects and philanthropic contribution to the Richmond community. The Foundation was established in the 1950s with initial seed funding from the sale of Camp Kiwanis, a summer camp for underprivileged children.

Today, the Foundation draws on a percentage of its investment income from assets more than $2 million to make meaningful grants to our Community Partners – organizations with whom we have a long-established volunteer relationship, and new partners as our responsible management allow.  The Foundation also funds our Club’s signature project, the Adopt-a-School Program, initiated by the Foundation in 2015 to make a tangible impact for the schools with which we partner.

Through the Foundation, the Kiwanis Club of Richmond annually contributes to the Kiwanis Children's Fund and Kiwanis Capital District Foundation, and we award Key Club Scholarships to graduating high school seniors each spring. The Club conducts several development efforts throughout the year, all of which are processed through the Foundation. We host the Kiwanis Cup Golf Tournament in the fall and other strategic fundraisers throughout the year.

The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors which it shares in common with the Kiwanis Club of Richmond. The Foundation does, however, have its own Treasurer, and the Club President appoints a Foundation Partnership Committee which meets once a year to review grant applications from our community partners.
