Leaving a Legacy

On March 8, our Club lost a beloved long-time member, Sam Derieux. Sam left a wonderful legacy to the Club: his 50 years of membership and service, and his authorship of our 75th and 100th Anniversary books. He leaves a void that can never be filled.

Sam left another legacy, as well. As one of the first members of the 1919 Society (a planned giving recognition for our members who intend to remember the Richmond Kiwanis Foundation in their will), Sam bequeathed $10,000 to the Richmond Kiwanis Foundation. We are all deeply grateful for his gift, which will continue to impact young people in Richmond for years to come, and for all who have made a gift to the Foundation in Sam’s memory.

Anyone who intends to bequeath a gift of any size to the Foundation is eligible to join the 1919 Society. Simply let Christy Jenkins or Mark Atchison (Development/Annual Appeal Chair) know of your plans and we will add you to the list. It is our hope to provide a specially designed recognition pin to be presented when live meetings resume.
